Alexander de Armas, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his San Diego home on April 16, 2024. He was 60 years old.

Born on February 16, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Carmen Maria Garcia and the Benigno de Armas, Alex grew up with a strong sense of duty and honor. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1982 and served for three years, earning several commendations and medals. He moved to San Diego in 1985 and joined the San Diego Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant and led numerous divisions throughout his career. He retired on August 2, 2021, after 35 years and 9 days of service.

Alex was a loving husband to Quinghui Zhuang, whom he married in 2015. He had three daughters Noemi, Rhea and Elissa, and he was a stepfather to Yanshuo. He was also a proud and doting grandfather to Olivia, Chloe-Flowers, Stella, and Penelope, who brought him joy and laughter. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, mother, sister Christine Argibay, brother-in-law Otto Argibay, and nieces and nephews Lauren and Eric.

Alex was a spiritual man, a man of integrity, and generosity. He was a mentor and a friend to many, and a hero to the community. He enjoyed reading, writing, and martial arts. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
