David Tozier, a retired North County banking executive who was active in the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce, died May 21 in his Hemet home. He was 72.

Mr. Tozier, who died of complications from heart and kidney problems, had lived in Encinitas until his retirement in 1989 as vice president and branch manager of American Savings Bank in Solana Beach.

He was active in the San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club during his 15 years in the banking industry. Earlier, while living in Clairemont for 12 years, he worked in advertising sales for various companies.

A native of Stevens Point, Wis., Mr. Tozier grew up in Chicago and studied liberal arts and business at De Paul University.

He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving the Bronze Star in Europe and attaining the rank of technical sergeant.

Mr. Tozier worked for several North County financial institutions before joining American Savings.

He is survived by his son, Glen Tozier, of Lakeside, and a granddaughter.

Cremation was planned. No services were scheduled.
