Detective Edward "Eddie" Russell Gomez, 66, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Costa Mesa, California.

Eddie was born February 17, 1956, to Paul and Frances Arzate Gomez in Santa Ana, California, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Foothill High School in 1975.

In 1977, Eddie began his lifetime career in Law Enforcement as a Santa Ana Police Department Reserve Officer. Moving to San Diego 4 years later, he earned a reputation as a man of integrity among fellow officers and department leadership. Eddie was with SDPD from 1981-2008. He worked a variety of assignments including South-East patrol, Recruiting, Gangs, Domestic Violence, Background Investigations, and Area Investigations. He was also a member of the PD-5 band during the Kolender days. The band was featured on the TV series "PM Magazine".

He met his beautiful bride and wife of 38 years, Nita Carol Gomez, at Lake Jennings and attended Faith Chapel in San Diego where they were married. Eddie also played semi-professional bass, lead, and rhythm guitar in many bands and churches throughout Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Eddie listened to all types of music and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to go boating, off-roading, and motorcycle riding whenever he had the chance.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Nita; daughters, Brianna Southerland and Elise (Chris) Slaney; son Brandon (Adrienne) Gomez; grandchildren, Lyla, Charlotte, Luke, Asher, and Judah; brothers, Paul and Gary Gomez; cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Yolanda Malone.
