SAVANNAH, GA -- Gene Leroy Thornton passed away September 20, 2013, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born June 4, 1947 in Boone, Iowa, to Emogene and Paul Thornton.

Lee was a graduate of San Diego High School.

He served in the Army's Honor Guard and he participated in the military funeral of Robert Kennedy.

He was a patrolman for the San Diego Police Department and Sheriffs Department.

He worked for many years in his family's business Jeanne's Senior Care as a board and care home administrator.

His last employment was with the U.S. Marshall's service in Savannah, GA, where he lived with his wife and daughters.

Survived by his mother Emogene Murray, wife Carol Thornton, daughters Kelly, Meredith, Morgan and son Kristopher, and sisters Lonna and Linda.
