Gerald LaFond, 71, a retired San Diego police officer, died Friday in a hospital.

There will be no services. His ashes will be scattered at sea by the Neptune Society.

Born in Illinois, Mr. LaFond retired from the police department with the rank of lieutenant after heading the forgery and auto theft details until 1966.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and past president of the California Check Investigators Association.

After retirement, he worked for five years as a security investigator at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach before moving to 1285 Phillips St., Vista.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth G. Paul, two daughters, Mrs. Vicki Lee Hall of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Barbara Deaver of Noristown, Pa; a son, Edward of Santee; two sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Fortin and Francis LaFond, and a brother, Lionel, all of Martinton, Ill.
