Services for James L. Stout, 57, of Clairemont, will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Clairemont Mortuary. Cremation was planned, with ashes to be scattered at sea.  He died Tuesday in a hospital.

Mr. Stout was a native of Illinois, lived in the county 39 years and was employed by the San Diego Police Department for 30 years, retiring as a detective sergeant before working at the Del Mar Race Track as an investigator.  He was active in North Clairemont Little League baseball and was a member of Toastmasters.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a son, Martin of Spring Valley; two daughters, Lesley Woodward of Hawaii and Marsha of San Diego; a brother, Charles of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Erma Priola of Bonsall; and four grandchildren.
