Funeral service for John Parker Elliott was held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chad Fetzer, pastor of NewHaven Church officiating.

Burial with military honors followed in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.

The family greeted friends from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

John Parker Elliott, age 89, of Lawton died on Monday, September 18, 2017 in Lawton.  John was born on September 1, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to Nellie Mae and Clyde P. Elliott.  He graduated from East Denver High School in Denver, Colorado and joined the United States Navy in 1946.  He served as a Machinist Mate for 3 years, with a tour in Guam, then was called back into active duty during the Korean War in 1950, serving an additional 15 months.

He married Dolores Arlene Jones, of San Diego, California, on June 17, 1949 and they had three children.  She died January 23, 2015.   John worked as a journeyman painter until joining the San Diego Police as a patrolman in 1955.  He was active in the Police Officers Association and served and protected the citizens of San Diego for 30 years until his retirement.  He and his wife were charter members of Clairemont Christian Church, where John served as teacher, board member, deacon, and elder for over 30 years.  John enjoyed photography and camping with his family. 

Upon retirement, John and his wife traveled and continued to stay active in church.  He taught Sunday School and served as a deacon and elder at Torrey Pines Christian Church where he and his wife were members for the past 15 years until their recent move to Oklahoma.  John was a 32nd Degree Freemason and member of the Joseph L. Shell Daylight Lodge No. 837 in San Diego.  In 2008, John was given the Hiram Award which is the single highest honor a California Mason may receive, presented to a Master Mason who has served the Lodge and Masonic Fraternity with devotion over and above the ordinary.

John was survived by his daughter and husband, Susan and Bill Burbridge of San Antonio, TX, his daughter and husband, Linda and Dr. James Toy of Lawton, OK, and his son and wife, John Parker Elliott, Jr. and Cathy of Cathedral City, CA, his grandchildren, Dawn Rose and husband, Justin, David Burbridge and wife Meredith, Jonathan Toy and wife, Crystal, Heather Pooschke and husband, Michael, Jason Toy and wife, Casey, Krystal Elliott, Sarah Hodges and husband, Jesse, and Ashley Elliott, as well as his ten great grandchildren, Brayden, Haylee and Mason Toy, Hallie and Madalyn Pooschke, Brooklyn Hodges, Kevin and Claire Toy, Kristin Rose and Landon Morrow.

Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and wife.

He was part of the fellowship at NewHaven Church in Lawton, OK.
