John Slough, born on August 25, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, passed away March 30, 2026, with his family by his side. John lived a life defined by honor, purpose, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. A beloved figure in both San Diego and Tooele County.
John served with distinction as a San Diego Police Officer, committed to keeping his community safe and leading by example for 30 years. Even after retirement, his passion for teaching never waned. He became a respected firearms instructor, sharing his knowledge and values with both students and family alike. Through his guidance, he inspired countless individuals to live with integrity, courage, and compassion.
Friends and family were the heart of John's world. He enjoyed telling stories, traveling the world with his beloved wife, camping, and most of all, fishing with those he cherished. John was the foundation of his family; a man whose wisdom and strength set the tone for generations. John lived with honor, worked with purpose, and loved without condition.
He is survived by his treasured soulmate, Sharyle Slough; his daughters, Kim Young and Dawn Allie; his sons-in-law, Ted Young and Dustin Allie; his grandsons and great-grandson, Derek Heuschele, Alex Young, and Vaughan Heuschele; and his granddaughter-in-law, Katrina Heuschele. Each of them carries forward his legacy.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory lives on in the countless lives he touched and the timeless lessons he shared, lessons that will continue to inspire and guide generations to come.
