Services for John Riley Stephens, 59, a former San Diego police detective and a furniture salesman, will be at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in St. John's Lutheran Church in El Cajon.  Burial will be in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Greenwood Mortuary is in charge.  He died Sunday in a hospital.

Mr. Stephens was born in Duncan, Okla., lived in the county 31 years and was an El Cajon resident.

He served in the Army during World War II, joined the Police Department in 1952 and left in 1961 after duty as a forgery detective.

For the last 15 years, he was a salesman at Lloyd's Furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; two daughters, Sandra Svidal of El Cajon and Susan, of San Diego; two sons, John and Paul, both of El Cajon; six sisters, Grace Ruffin of Montclair, Calif., Faye Robinson of Lothian, Md., and Bobbie McCarty, Skeet Oakley, Myrtle Stepp and Mae O'Neal, all of Fort Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren.
