John Paul Thelin, 62, passed away Monday morning, July 1, 2019, at his home in Navarre, Florida.
John was born April 21, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harriet and Henry Thelin. He was retired from both Law enforcement at the San Diego, California, Police Department, and UPS in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He had just recently moved to Navarre and was looking forward to enjoying his retirement years in our community.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Thelin; mother, Harriet (Zolinski) Thelin; and two brothers, Henry Thelin and Edward Thelin.
John was blessed with a large family whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his “Angel” Millicent; a son, John Henry of San Diego, California; three daughters, Emily, Claire, and Melissa; and four grandchildren, Mike, Abby, Emmett, and Jailyn of Minneapolis, Minnesota; He is also survived by, two sisters, Karen Thelin of Oceano, California, and Lillian Ferguson of Highland, Indiana; and five brothers, Joseph Thelin of Santa Maria, California, Carl Thelin of Garland, Texas, Tom Thelin of Leominster, Massachusetts, Michael Thelin of Imperial Beach, California, and Andy Thelin of Los Osos, California.
John was a top-notch athlete; playing football in high school and helping his team make it to the state finals. He continued his football career at the college and the semi-pro level until he decided to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. John always kept active in sports throughout his life playing baseball and coaching his children’s soccer teams.
John had an incredible smile, never met a stranger, and was a lifelong friend to many.
