John Hurlburt Vallance, 85, of Spring Valley died Saturday.

He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and was an animal-control officer for San Diego County.

He was retired from the Navy and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Vallance; daughters, Vicki Burnworth of Bard and Gail Thomas of Palmer, Alaska; son, John H. Vallance Jr., of Palmer, Wash.; stepdaughters, Michelle Avila of Spring Valley and Sandy Stone of Madison, Wis.; stepson, Troy Hayden of Arizona; brother, Howard Vallance of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
