ENGINEER SPRINGS (CNS) - A San Diego Police Detective was killed when the motorcycle he was riding on a rural route in the southern reaches of San Diego County was struck head-on by a sport utility vehicle, whose driver was arrested.  
                      
Larry W. Steward, 49, was off-duty and riding to the east on State Route 94 in the Engineer Springs area when the oncoming Dodge Durango swerved into his path near Marron Valley Road about 10:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner's Office.
