Robert 'Bob' Fairburn passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2007, at the age of 72.

Bob was born and raised in San Diego and took pride in serving his community throughout his lifetime.

Upon graduation from San Diego High School, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He spent his lifelong career in the food service industry. He sold products for Swift and for Vowles Foods in El Cajon.

Bob had many loyal customers and friends in the hotels, restaurants and schools that he served. He was very dedicated to the needs of his customers.

Bob was a lieutenant in the San Diego Police Reserves. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in El Cajon and belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Mission Valley.

After retirement, he was a Docent on The Star of India for the Maritime Museum and he and his wife Dona tutored children at Hage Elementary School.

He often expressed what tremendous joy that gave him. Bob's greatest gift was in helping others. He was asked many favors and never turned anyone away.

Bob has many friends in San Diego. People loved Bob for what he was, sincere, caring, honest and never pretentious. Bob never met a stranger. He was the 'Good Samaritan.' Bob had a wonderful sense of humor, he loved to tease and be teased. His fun loving spirit and constant generosity will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. We were blessed to have him in our lives.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Dona of 33 years; daughters, Rose Grahl (Kent), Linda Hoke (Tom), Vicky Thompson (Dan), Tami Carter (Brett), and Gayle Landes as well as his grandchildren, Kory, Tyler, Troy, Ryan and Jessica. He is preceded by his beloved granddaughter 'Angel Haley'.
