GARDELLA -- Stephen L. Jr., 71, died March 26, 1998 following a short battle with Leukemia.

He was a highly decorated Marine, including service at the US Embassy in China, Drill Instructor at MCRD. Served during combat in Korean and in the Criminal Intelligence Division at Camp Pendleton. He retired at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in 1958.

Following his discharge he held various positions including Polygraph Examiner for the San Diego Police Dept. from 1958 to 1967.

From 1967 to 1987 he was Vice President of Pacific Southwest Airlines Director of Security concurrently and until 1990 he was also President of Strategic Security Services. His latest accomplishment was from 1995 to present he was Military Liaison Officer with the San Diego Sheriff's Office.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Betty, his sons John, Stephen III and Michael, daughter Barbara, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
