WINKELMAN WILLIAM HARRY a.k.a. Bill, Scotty, and Wink William Winkelman 1926 to 2003

A devoted husband, loving and dedicated father, and tireless law enforcement officer died in Seattle on Saturday, August 2, 2003.

William is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Iky, two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

William, son of Virgil and Hetty Winkelman, was born in Glendale, Oregon on July 29, 1926 and at the passing of his mother, was raised by his sister Iky.

He served in the Naval Air Force during World War II and came home to work with his father and brother, Virgil Jr., on the Southern Pacific Railroad as a fireman.

William met and married his loving, lifelong companion, Shirley June Stead, on Christmas Day 1946.

William then spent five years in the San Diego Police Department, and twenty-eight years in the California Highway Patrol, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

William also enjoyed membership in the Elks (achieving Exaulted Ruler of Elks Lodge # 2431 in Federal Way, WA and Elks Lodge #479 in Camano Island, WA) and was a Mason for nearly 50 years.

William enjoyed getting out and fully participating in life in all of its forms, so much so his wife Shirley called him ``our social butterfly ' ' and in keeping with his pursuit of life, there are no memorial services planned. William declared that he had done those things in life as he wanted to do them and also did everything he could to see that those around him were able to do the same in their lives. William will be missed by us all.
