RESERVE OFFICER WOODROW A. RATNER
SDPD 04/26/1953 - 01/01/1965
01/30/1918 - 01/02/2008
1918 to 2008 After 89 years of a beautiful life, Woodrow Abraham Ratner passed away peacefully at home in Chula Vista.

Beloved husband of Ruth Rovech Ratner for 64 devoted years, special father to Ronna, Richard and Ann and their spouses Eric Voorsanger, Peggy Grunewald Ratner and Gary Fink, adopted daughter, Lone Christensen and her husband Egon Hedegaard of Copenhagen, Denmark, brother to Seymour Ratner and his spouse, Carmen.

Woody began life in New York City, January 30, 1918.

His parents, Mollie and Marco Ratner moved to San Diego in 1920 'for Woody's health' and it worked!

He was the first boy to be called to the bimah as a bar mitzvah at Congregation Beth Israel, attended Hoover High School and San Diego State before being drafted during World War II. Woody joined his father's business, Ratner Electric, and along with his brother, built it into a family success story.

Woody married the love of his life, Ruth, on January 25, 1942. They made La Mesa their home for 50 years, then moved to Chula Vista.

He was a man who filled the world with laughter, a man of integrity, a man who loathed injustice, a man who loved life, whose last wish was that we all help with tikun olam, repairing the world.

Also, to bless his memory are his grandchildren, Deborah Ayer, Eric Ratner, Daniel Ayer, Daniel Ratner, Jacob Fink and Gregory Fink and numerous relatives and friends. The family thanks Dan Weiss and Manuel Cortes of Hospice of San Diego, Mel Evangelista, Benni Bungayong and Vicki Mestler, Woody's devoted caregivers, and Dr. Kenneth Roth for his loving care.
