Albert Peter Gaudio, a resourceful auto mechanic and award-winning adult educator, died of a heart attack May 10 at his San Diego home. He was 74.
Mr. Gaudio received commendations from the city of San Diego for his innovations in vehicle maintenance during his 25 years with the San Diego Police Department.
He also taught auto mechanics for many years as part of an adult-education program in the Sweetwater Union High School District.
In 1975, he received the CALCO award as the state's outstanding adult educator.
In addition, Mr. Gaudio was co-owner of the former Julia Rice Manor, a rest home for the elderly in Chula Vista. He operated the home for 10 years with his late wife, Olga, and his sister-in-law, Julia Rice.
Mr. Gaudio was born in Erie, Pa., and served in the Navy at Pearl Harbor during World War II.
He is survived by a sister, Jay Bujnowski, of North East, Pa.; a daughter, Linda Binkley, of Saratoga; two sons, Peter, of Santa Clara, and Bert, of San Diego; and five grandchildren.
