Elmo Lee Stough was born on 20 August 1924, in Fort Wayne Indiana to Carl Fred Stough and his mother Bertha Mae Brocklehurst. 

Elmo married Evelyn Patricia Moore on 21 August 1948, in Allen, Indiana. Evelyn passed away on June 26, 1965. The couple resided in Santee. 

Elmo died on July 1, 1983, in San Diego California at the age of 58. 

He was buried in San Diego.
