James E. Barrer, 57, of Paradise Hills, died Saturday in a hospital. Cremation was planned by Greenwood Mortuary. 

No services were scheduled.

Mr. Barrer, a native of Iowa, lived in the county 41 years. He was a San Diego Transit bus driver for 17 years and had served in the National City and San Diego police departments.

Survivors include three daughters, Anne Campbell and Leela McCawley, both of San Diego, and Evelyn Reilly of Spring Valley; a sister, Cecilia Stevermer of Minnesota; and three grandchildren.
