William C. Gentry, 94, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, decorated veteran, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025.

Born in Gooding, Idaho, Bill was raised in Duchesne and Provo, Utah where his great love for the outdoors took root. A 1948 graduate of Provo High School, he attended Brigham Young University until drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. Serving in the Korean War with the 25th Infantry Division from 1952 to 1953, Bill led soldiers in frequent combat, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars, United Nations Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

Honorably discharged, Bill settled in San Diego, completing his degree at San Diego State University. He served for many years as a police officer with the Escondido and San Diego Police Departments.

In 1959, he married Faye, embarking on a 65-year journey of love, laughter, and devotion. Pursuing his passion for justice, Bill earned a law degree from the University of San Diego and joined the San Diego District Attorney’s Office in 1969. For 26 years, he prosecuted numerous high-profile cases, including many complex homicide trials, retiring in 1995 as a respected career prosecutor.

A man of many interests, in retirement Bill found joy in fishing, leatherwork, woodwork, growing roses, and cooking.

Above all, he treasured moments with his grandchildren, Liam, Kate, Olivia, and Amelia, delighting them with his humor and love.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Faye; son, William Jr.; daughter-in-law, Danielle Hickman; four grandchildren; and brother, Stephen and family. He was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Audra and Anne. Bill’s legacy of devotion, bravery, service, humor, and unwavering love will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
