Executive Commissioner LaValle joined the San Diego Police Department in 1997 after a career with the California Highway Patrol where he served as a commercial enforcement officer.

Since his swearing in with SDPD, Executive Commissioner LaValle has worked in patrol, Western Division walking team, as a community relations officer, beach patrol, juvenile service team, the detective bureau, Operational Support and Special Events.

Executive Commissioner LaValle joined the San Diego Police Historical Association in 2000 as a Director I.  From 2001-2003 LaValle also served as the associations treasurer.

Since 2006 he has served a dual role as Executive Commissioner and a Director within the organization.  In 2011 Executive Commissioner LaValle was appointed as a Director II.

Executive Commissioner LaValle has served as chair of the historic video committee. He also was cofounder of the the annual Cops and Rodders car show and served as chair for numerous golf tournaments and all cigar social mixers. Executive Commissioner LaValle also partners with Vice President Willard to promote the associations largest event, the Legends Behind the Badge Awards Gala.

His dedication and talents have made him the associations most productive fundraiser over the past several years.

In 2012, Executive Commissioner LaValle partnered with Vice President Steve Willard on the book, "Images of America, San Diego Police Department Case Files."

In 2013, Exective Commissioner LaValle joined the board of directors of the San Diego Police Officers Association where he served as a director until 2017

He and Vice President Willard also own Absolute Victory Insignia, a custom insignia company. Together they dontate 100% of all San Diego Police Related merchandise to the San Diego Police Museum.
