Volunteer Yeatts began his professional career with the San Diego Police Department in 1954 as a patrolman. In his early years, Volunteer Yeatts tranined a young police officer named William B. Kolender. Volunteer Yeatts eventually rose to the rank of detective before his 1980 retirement.
Mr. Yeatts went on to a second career with the San Diego Padres baseball club.
His son Jim is also a retired San Diego Police Department detective.
